How we run it for landscapers & sod removal

The 7-yard box, and why it's built for you

Our 7-yard dirt and concrete box sits two feet tall. A crew shovels or wheelbarrows straight in from ground level, and a skid steer bucket dumps over the side without lifting. It holds about two pickup-truck loads and hauls at a flat rate with no tonnage overage, which matters because dirt and sod are the heaviest material anyone puts in a container. Wet sod can run over a ton per cubic yard. In a standard roll-off with a tonnage allowance, a sod job is an overage waiting to happen. In the 7-yard, the price you book is the price you pay.

Sizing a sod removal

As a rule of thumb, a 7-yard box takes 800 to 1,200 square feet of sod depending on how much soil comes up with it and how the crew cuts it. A typical quarter-acre Salt Lake lot with turf front and back is somewhere between 3,000 and 5,000 square feet of lawn, which is three to five boxes. Most crews run two boxes on a swap: one filling while the full one goes to the dump, so nobody stops working. Tell us the square footage and whether you're cutting deep or shallow and we'll set the schedule.

Keep the load clean

The flat rate depends on the load being dirt, sod, or concrete only. Brush, branches, root balls, lumber, and bagged trash change how the landfill classifies the load. If that happens, we bill the difference in disposal cost at our cost and send you the scale ticket. There's no flat contamination fee and no return-trip charge; the landfill takes the load at the higher rate rather than refusing it. Wet soil from rain doesn't count as contamination. Green waste goes in the 20-yard; if a job produces both, order one of each and keep them separate.

Live-load delivery

We also bring material in. Fill dirt, topsoil, rock, and gravel delivered to the site for $175 flat, no volume discount because there's no dump fee on the other end. Pair a live-load delivery with a 7-yard haul-away and the crew never leaves the property.

Accounts

Landscapers and sod crews are most of our 7-yard volume, and most run Net 30 accounts with monthly volume pricing. Rates step down at 5 boxes a month and again at 10. Book by text, get the scale ticket with the invoice, and never explain a tonnage overage to a client again.

Landscapers & Sod Removal questions

Can I mix sod and dirt with yard waste?

Keep them separate. Dirt, sod and concrete go in the 7-yard box at a flat rate. Brush, branches and green waste go in the 20-yard. Mixing them means the landfill reclassifies the load, and we pass that cost through at cost with the scale ticket.

What if the soil is wet from rain?

Rain isn't your fault. We don't treat wet soil as contamination.
